Deceived At Every Turn Page 14
Two days earlier she’d been pulled over for speeding, and asked to produce the ownership and insurance card to the officer conducting the traffic stop. To her surprise and amazement, the SUV was registered to her. Solely to her. Three months she’d been the owner of the luxury automobile and had no idea. Riley, the wonderfully generous, and sneaky, man of her dreams, purchased the vehicle for her and had still never owned up to it. She should have known something was up when he’d told her the garage couldn’t fix her scrap heap.
Harper had never been impressed by money or material things, but she was hopelessly in love with Riley, long before his revelation, and to be with him was to take all of him. Money or no money, she wanted him. She was thankful that he wasn’t the type of person to flaunt what he had or could have. Yet this new information did make her curious.
“Why do you work then?”
Riley shrugged. “I like law enforcement. I like taking down bad guys. Now, I don’t want to discuss work, I’ve got something else on my mind.”
“Oh, Riley, get your mind out of the gutter. The girls are right over there.” She laughed.
“Stop talking, woman.” Riley got down on one knee in front of her. Opening the little box, he revealed to her a simple diamond solitaire ring.
It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. Harper knew what he was asking, but she wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of her excitement. Not just yet.
“Marry me, Harper. Make me the happiest man in the world. The log house is secluded and secure. There are acres of property for Fred and Ginger to roam. We can swim in the lake. It’s close to a good school. It’s more than big enough for the six of us and if you don’t like it, we’ll move somewhere else.”
Harper had already decided she was going to ask Riley to marry her...if he hadn’t gotten around to asking her soon. She smiled at him.
“Yes, Riley, I’ll marry you. But, is your log cabin big enough for seven?”
“Well sure, but...” He turned his head and took count of the bodies in the backyard.
Harper shook her head and cocked it to one side. “You know, sometimes you’re pretty thick, cop.”
His quizzical expression as he studied her was priceless. He was positively adorable.
Harper smiled as recognition finally settled over Riley’s gorgeous face.
“You’re...” Riley was excited and clearly taken aback, and was unable to complete his sentence.
With incredible love in her heart for him, Harper reached over to touch his face. “Yes, Riley, we’re pregnant. I’m not in this alone.” She smiled. “And with the heartburn I’ve been enjoying for the last month, my money’s on it being a boy. Giving me a hard time, just like his father,” she mused, rubbing her hand across her chest for added effect.
“But how? We used condoms.”
“Guess one of them was defective,” she said.
Riley’s eyes grew wide and misty. “I’m going to be a daddy?”
“You’re already a daddy.” Harper nodded to the jungle gym where Olivia and Zandra now played.
“Yeah, but this time we’re starting from scratch. Are we going to be able to handle that?”
Harper kissed him deeply. She had never been sure of anything before falling in love with Riley. Now, she was sure of everything. She was more than sure of one thing in particular. She withdrew from their kiss to look into his eyes.
“Together, Riley, you and I can handle anything.”
About Jennifer Cole
www.lyricalpress.com/jennifer_cole
After reading a number of erotic romances I got the bright idea it might be fun to write one. Seems I possess a talent to tell a lascivious tale. My writing interests include BDSM, ménage, polyamory, contemporary, and paranormal themes; but regardless of the steamy sexy stories I create, for me it’s all about true love and happily-ever-after, or a reasonable facsimile--the guy must get the girl, or guy, in the end.
When not sweating over the laptop tapping to keep up with my over-active imagination, I squeeze in running, cycling, trips to the gym and occasionally shoot pool. Above everything else, I cherish time spent with my family and friends.
Currently I make my home in a small city in South-western Ontario and just enjoy life.
A simple girl with simple indulgences, that’s me. I listen to rock music, enjoy expensive cognac and oh, I’ve never met a cookie I didn’t like!
